‘I’m Alive’ is the Albanian song to Vienna!

After a small dose of controversy regarding original song ‘Diell’ and its removal from the contest, we now know the song that will be performed in Vienna by Albania – ‘I’m Alive’ by Elhaida Dani.

We’ve already covered Elhaida on ESC Views before, but to recap – she’s a twenty-two year old woman, famous for winning several talent shows, most notably the first series of The Voice of Italy. Is that one set of douze points already then I wonder? Her debut album came out shortly after, but none of her singles have really set the charts alight. ‘I’m Alive’ could be about to change that though…

Whearas ‘Diell’ was a typical Albanian ballad – neither immensely dull or amazingly brilliant, ‘I’m Alive’ is a good and welcome improvement with a nice modern beat. The chorus is a little repetitive, but the tune is overall more upbeat and memorable, and has a slicker, more contemporary feel that is sure to appeal to far more Euro-fans than ‘Diell’ ever did. One may ask the question if Albania should change their entries more often… in the past, the small Balkan nation have had mixed success, often sending female soloists – 2012 remains their best finish.

In Elhaida, they have a woman with an impressive set of pipes, and should feel confident that she’ll give all she’s got on stage in May. ‘I’m Alive’ is not the superb song we had perhaps hoped, and it does take part in the tougher semi-final. With over 300,000 YouTube views for the music video, that’s surely a promising sign? But what do you think?

Your views:

What do you think of "Tonight Again"?
Is ‘I’m Alive’ impressing you?

Stephen from the UK: Loving the new song I’m Alive. See it doing well. Good luck!!!

Mikhail from the Czech Republic: It seems like Albania is sneaking into my top five.

Sean from Scotland: Albania looks like Caroline Flack off Strictly. Song is “strong”. But I hate when someone sings in badly accented English.

Piro from Germany: In my opinion for example the new song approaches better to “the spirit” of ESC; Also the message in this one is more generalizable than the classical love ballad … The voice is remarkable (undoubtedly) … Still … as this year I haven’t followed the other contestant so far I can say that it might work … Soon I’ll come with my top 10 of course (like always did the previous years).

So, mainly positive reactions there, but I’m sure there’s a whole lot of people who may think otherwise… if so, let us know in the comments down below!
