Aujourd’hui, it’s the go of France, and LIsa Angell’s internally-selected song ‘N’oubliez Pas’, continuing the recent trend of the French singing in their own language. The country hasn’t had the best of times in recent years, coming last in 2014 and in the bottom 6 in 2013, despite having won Eurovision on 5 occasions.
Here’s what the jury members think:
Lewis – Thank goodness they’re not singing about moustaches this year! Overall, this entry has a nice air of class, but I think it’s just going to be forgotten about, but the juries will definitely bump it up the scoreboard a bit. 6/12
Reece – How typical of the French to send a ballad. If only they sent such a song sounding like something straight from circa 2001 – while Lisa has a strong voice, the song slips by and is forgotten quickly. Mid-table I say. 5/12
Rory – I was pretty bored with ‘N’oubliez pas’ when I heard it back in November, but as time has gone on, France has really come out to be a bit of a grower on me! Lisa has a really pure and elastic voice, and the song builds up very well..the question is, will first-time-listeners connect with her in only one performance? That’s anyone’s guess! 7/12
Lauren – Despite being somebody that can only name you about three colours in French and inform you that ‘the prince is riding’ in Dothraki, I really like it when countries enter songs in their native language. Aside from being one of my favourites this year, this song is mellow and slow, and will probably do quite well overall! 8/12
